Free Crochet Pattern for Boy Doll

SUPPLIES

cotton yarn 170m/50g in four colors: skin color, beige, brown and grey, crochet hook 2,5 mm, Polyester fiberfill stuffing, 2 black beads or safety eyes, 2 buttons, scissors, yarn needle.

The ready amigurumi is approx. 29 cm. You can make the doll larger (or smaller) by changing the yarn weight and/or hook size or by adding rounds

TIPPS

• Do not join rounds, work in a continuous spiral.
• Use a stitch marker or a piece of yarn to mark the end or the beginning of a round
• All stitches are worked into both loops, unless stated otherwise in the pattern.
• You can use any type of yarn as long as you have a corresponding crochet hook size (check yarn label for recommendations)
• Numbers at the end of each round in parentheses ( ) = total number of stitches for that round or row.
• Please note that I use US crochet terms. 
• The doll can be made in any desired colours.

SHIFT STITCH

Sometimes during a work of the spiral amigurumi, you need to keep the work symmetrically. As work tends to twist to the right you need to adjust position of the marker periodically (beginning of the round).

Shift stitch is an extra stitch you work at the end of a round to make your work look symmetrical. If you notice that marker moves right, you need to work one extra stitch in the end of the round and move marker for one stitch (now 2nd st of the round becomes 1st). this is shift stitch.

The shift stitch is not included in the round description. To check if it’s time to work shift stitch fold your work in half and check if marker still goes straight or use a yarn that marks a straight line.

You may think this is a increase, but it isn’t. This way you don’t increase or decrease the amount of stitches. The stitches count remains the same.

Seamsless way of changing color when working in the round

Pick up the new color at the end of the round: inset your hook into the stitch, yarn over the new color and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook to complete the stitch.

INSTRUCTIONS

BOOTIES (2x)

Use white color yarn and begin with a magic ring.

Rnd 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring

Rnd 1: 6 FM in einen Magic Ring

Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12 stitches)

Rnd 3: *sc in next st, inc* (18 sts)

Rnd 4: (*sc in next st, inc* repeat from* to* three times, sc in each of next 3 sts) repeat twice (24 stitches)

Rnd 5: (*sc in each of next 2 sts, inc* repeat from* to* three times, sc in each of next 3 sts) repeat twice (30 stitches)

Rnd 6 (working in the back loop): sc in each of next 30 sts

Rnd 7: sc in each of next 30 sts

Rnd 8: sc in each of next 2 sts, *dec* six times, sc in each of next 16 sts (24 stitches)

Rnd 9: *dec* five times, sc in each of next 6 sts, dec, sc in each of next 6 sts (18 stitches)

Rnd 10-13: sc in each of next 18 sts

Don´t cast off. Continue crocheting in rounds.

LEG (2x)

Change the color

Rnd 1 (working into the back loop): sc in each of next 18 sts

Rnd 2-10: sc in each of next 18 sts

Working into the front loop with brown color yarn: sc in each of next 18 sts

Rnd 11: *sc in each of next 5 sts, inc* (21 stitches)

Rnd 12-17: sc in each of next 21 sts

Stuff firmly. Cast off the first leg.

Work the second leg the same way but don´t cast off!

BODY and HEAD

Work shift stitch every 3-4 round. 

Rnd 1:  chain 5 stitches, work one round over both legs (21 stitches  of the first leg, sc in each of next 5 sts, 21 stitches of the second leg)

Rnd 2: sc in each of next 15 sts, inc, sc in each of next 25 sts, inc, sc in each of next 10 sts (54 stitches)

Rnd 3-8: sc in each of next 54 sts

Rnd 9: sc in each of next 14 sts, dec, sc in next st, dec, sc in each of next 22 sts, dec, sc in next st, dec, sc in each of next 8 sts (50 sts).

Rnd 10-12: sc in each of next 50 sts

Rnd 13: sc in each of next 13 sts, dec, sc in next st, dec, sc in each of next 20 sts, dec, sc in next st, dec, sc in each of next 7 sts (46 sts).

Rnd 14-16: sc in each of next 46 sts

Stuff firmly. Don´t cast off.

HEAD

Rnd 1: *sc in next st, inc* (36 stitches)

Rnd 2: *sc in each of next 2 sts, inc* (48 stitches)

Rnd 3: *sc in each of next 7 sts, inc* (54 stiitches)

Rnd 4-13: sc in each of next 54 sts

Rnd 14: *dec, sc in each of next 7 sts* (48 stitches)

Rnd 15: sc in each of next 48 sts

Rnd 16: *dec, sc in each of next 6 sts* (42 stitches)

Rnd 17: *dec, sc in each of next 5 sts* (36 stitches)

Stuff the hand slightly.

Change the color

Rnd 10: sc in each of next 18 sts

Rnd 11: *dec, sc in each of next 4 sts* (15 stitches)

Rnd 12-29: sc in each of next 15 sts (2 rounds in brown and 2 rounds in beige)

Stuff slightly

Rnd 30: *dec, sc in each of next 3 sts* (12 stitches)

Rnd 31: sc in each of next 12 sts

Rnd 32: dec 6 times.

Bind off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Work the second arm the same way.

PANTS

Front Post Double Crochet:

Yarn over, insert your hook between the posts of the first and second stitch of the row below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches

Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch. You now have 3 loops on the hook

Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice. 

One front post double crochet (FP dc) is complete.

LEGS

Cast on 30 stitches and  joing for crocheting in rounds.

Rounds 1-4: dc in each of next 30 stitches, sl st.

Cast off.

Work the second leg the same way but don´t cast off!

Rnd 1: chain 6 stitches, work one round over both legs (30 stitches  of the first leg, dc in each of next 6 sts, 30 stitches of the second leg).

Rnd 2: dc in each of next 72 stitches

Rnd 3: dc in each of next 12 sts, dec, dc in next st, dec, dc in each of next 30 sts, dec, dc in next st, dec, dc in each of next 12 sts (68 stitches)

Rnd 4: dc in each of next 68 stitches

Rnd 5: dc in each of next 11 sts, dec, dc in next st, dec, dc in each of next 28 sts, dec, dc in next st, dec, dc in each of next 11 sts (64 stitches)

Rnd 6: dc in each of next 64 stitches

Rnd 7: dc in each of next 10 sts, dec, dc in next st, dec, dc in each of next 26 sts, dec, dc in next st, dec, dc in each of next 10 sts (60 stitches)

Rnd 8: dc in each of next 60 stitches

Rnd 9: dc in each of next 9 sts, dec, dc in next st, dec, dc in each of next 24 sts, dec, dc in next st, dec, dc in each of next 9 sts (56 stitches)

Rnd 10-12: chain 3 stitches, *1 fpdc, 1 dc*, repeat from* to* till the end of the round.

Bind off.

chain 38 stitches, dc in the 4th st from hook and each of next 34 sts.

Bind off.

CAP

Rnd 1: Chain 4 stitches, join with sl st into ring. Ch3, 11dc into the ring, slip stitch (12 sts).

Rnd 2: ch3, dc in the same st as ch, 2 dc in each of next 11 sts, sl st to top of ch 3 (24 stitches)

Rnd 3: ch 3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st*, repeat from*to* 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (36 stitches)

Rnd 4: ch 3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 2 sts*, repeat from*to* 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (48 stitches)

Rnd 5: ch 3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 3 sts*, repeat from*to* 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (60 stitches)

Rnd 6 (working into the back loop): dc in each of next 60 sts

Rnd 7: dc in each of next 60 sts

chain 1, working into the front loop: dc in each of next 20 sts, chain 1, turn the work,

2 dc tog, dc in eahc of next 16 sts, 2 dc tog, bind off.

ASSEMBLY

Sew arms to the body.

Cut the yarn twice as long as the length you want.

Put the hook through the loop where you want the hair, grab a strand of your yarn and pull it through. Grab the end of the yarn and pull that through the loop.

Position eyes and sew them to the head of the doll. Embrouder eyebrows and mouth if desired.

Sew buttons on the pants..
