This Pattern is super to use up some left over yarns and to geta beautiful colourful ball. This is a perfect gift idea for any kids’ birthday or just for any occasion. Kids love to blay with this fun bouncy ball especially when he’s worked in many different Colors.
The ball can easily be worked in different sizes with either bigger yarn or if the Pentagon is worked with one more round.
I tried to write the pattern as beginner friendly as possible, if you have any questions or issues during knitting, I’m more than happy to help. Eiter via a comment here or via a private message.

The Ball Needs 12 Pentagons
Let’s start:
Cast on 5 Ch with the Dk Yarn held double and close them to a round with a slst
1. Round:
Chain 2 stitches (doesn’t count as stitches) work then 3 Dc, 2 Ch, 3 Dc 2 Ch, 3 Dc, 2 Ch, 3 Dc 2 Ch, 3 Dc and 2 ch into the ring, close this round with a slst into the first stitch.
2. Round:
Chain 2 stitches (doesn’t count as stitches) work then always 1 Dc into each stitch and always, (1 Dc, 2 CH and 1 Dc) into the corners, close the round again with a slst into the first stitch of this round. Schließe die Runde wieder mit einer Km oben in die erste M dieser Runde.
( 5 Dc on each site)
( 7 Dc on each site)
Work this 12 times in total to get 12 single Pentagons
Assemble:
The single pieces are sewn together to 2 half balls. For this lay the front pieces of 2 pentagons on each other and sew one side together. Use a sewing needle and always use the back loops to sew them together.
sew 5 Pentagon pieces onto one middle pentagon and then close the sides in between them.
Work like this the second half ball.
When both halves are finished, they will be sewn together with the same stitch. It is important to make sure that the pieces are sewn together offset. ( look at the first photo)
if ist not sewn together like this you won’t get a ball but an awkward disformed star 😊
Sew the two halves together until you reached the final seam and leave that open to turn the piece inside out so the nice side is now outside. When this is done you can close off the last seam a bit more but not fully as we need a little opening for the balloon.
Use now a simple ballon and put it into the left open hole with the bottom part hanging out so it can be blown up like that.
