Frog Princess Free Crochet Pattern

This sweet frog princess loves to lay down and relax in the grass or next to a little pond. Or even better at the beach next to you! Crochet the one for yourself this summer with this very easy to follow free crochet pattern! SUPPLIES

cotton yarn (e.g. Schachenmayr Catania 125m/50g) in two colors: green color and yellow, a bit of white yarn for the eyes and flower, yarn rests for the body any color you wish, crochet hook 3 mm and 2,5 mm, Polyester fiberfill stuffing, scissors, 2 black beads or little safety eyes, yarn needle

The ready amigurumi is approx. 24 cm, can be made bigger or smaller depending on the yarn and hook you use.

TIPS

• Do not join rounds, work in a continuous spiral.
• Use a stitch marker or a piece of yarn to mark the end or the beginning of a round
• All stitches are worked into both loops, unless stated otherwise in the pattern.
• Amigurumi can be made in any desired colours.

Seamsless way of changing color when working in the round

Pick up the new color at the end of the round: inset your hook into the stitch, yarn over the new color and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook to complete the stitch.

INSTRUCTIONS

ARM (2x)

Start with green color yarn.

Round 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring

Round 2: inc 6 times (12 stitches)

Round 3: *sc in the next stitche, inc* (18 stitches)

Rounds 4-9: sc in each of next 18 stitches

Round 10: *dec, sc in each of next 4 stitches* (15 stitches)

Rounds 11-24: sc in each of next 15 stitches

Stuff the arm slightly.

Round 25: *dec, sc in each of next 3 stitches* (12 stitches)

Bind off leaving a long tail for sewing. Work the second arm the same way.

BOOTIE (2x)

Work with yellow color yarn.

Round 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring

Round 2: inc 6 times (12 stitches)

Round 3: *sc in next stitch, inc* (18 stitches)

Round 4: (*sc in next stitch, inc* repeat from* to* three times, sc in each of next 3 stitches) repeat twice (24 stitches)

Round 5: (*sc in each of next 2 stitches, inc* repeat from* to* three times, sc in each of next 3 stitches) repeat twice (30 stitches)

Round 6 (working in the back loop): sc in each of next 30 stitches

Round 7: sc in each of next 30 stitches

Round 8: sc in each of next 2 stitches, *dec* six times, sc in each of next 16 stitches (24 stitches)

Round 9: *dec* five times, sc in each of next 6 stitches, dec, sc in each of next 6 stitches (18 stitches)

Bind off.

LEG (2x)

Change the color to green

Rnd 1 (working into the back loop): sc in each of next 18 stitches

Rounds 2-17: sc in each of next 18 stitches

Gut ausstopfen.

Round 18: *dec, sc in each of next 4 stitches* (15 stitches)

Runde 19: je 1 FM in die nächsten 15 Maschen

Stuff the leg firmly.

Cast off the first leg. Work the second leg the same way.

SHIFT STITCH

Sometimes during a work of the spiral amigurumi, you need to keep the work symmetrically. As work tends to twist to the right you need to adjust position of the marker periodically (beginning of the round).

Shift stitch is an extra stitch you work at the end of a round to make your work look symmetrical. If you notice that marker moves right, you need to work one extra stitch in the end of the round and move marker for one stitch (now 2nd st of the round becomes 1st). this is shift stitch.

The shift stitch is not included in the round description. To check if it’s time to work shift stitch fold your work in half and check if marker still goes straight or use a yarn that marks a straight line.

You may think this is a increase, but it isn’t. This way you don’t increase or decrease the amount of stitches. The stitches count remains the same.

BODY and HEAD

Work shift stitch every 3-4 round. Use any color yarn you wish.

Round 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring

Round 2: inc 6 times (12 stitches)

Round 3: *sc in the next stitch, inc* (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc in each of next 2 stitches, inc* (24 stitches)

Round 5: *sc in each of next 3 stitches, inc* (30 stitches)

Round 6: *sc in each of next 4 stitches, inc* (36 stitches)

Round 7: *sc in each of next 5 stitches, inc* (42 stitches)

Round 8: *sc in each of next 6 stitches, inc* (48 stitches)

Start stuffing the body.

Round 26: *dec, sc in each of next 8 stitches* (54 stitches)

In the next round attach the hands (ensure that the hands are located in the middle and make several shift stitches if needed):

Change to green color yarn

Round 33 (working into the back loop): *dec, sc in each of next 3 stitches* (24 stitches)

Round 34 (working into the back loop): sc in each of next stitch till the end of the round

Stuff the body firmly

HEAD

Continue crocheting head using the green color yarn

Round 1: *sc in the next stitch, inc* (36 stitches)

Round 2: *sc in each of next 2 stitches, inc* (48 stitches)

Round 3: *sc in each of next 7 stitches, inc* (54 stiitches)

Round 4: *sc in each of next 8 stitches, inc* (60 stitches)

Round 5-15: sc in each of next 60 stitches

Round 16: *dec, sc in each of next 8 stitches* (54 stitches)

Round 17: sc in each of next 54 stitches

Round 18: *dec, sc in each of next 7 stitches* (48 stitches)

EYE (2x)

Work using white color yarn and crochet hook 2,5 mm

Round 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring

Round 2: inc 6 times (12 stitches)

Round 3: *sc in the next stitche, inc* (18 stitches)

Rounds 4-5: sc in each of next 18 stitches

Round 6: *dec, sc in the next stitch* (12 stitches)

Stuff the eye slightly.

Round 7: *dec* 6 times.

Bind off. Work the second eye the same way.

EYELID

Crochet using green color yarn and crochet hook 3 mm

Round 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring

Round 2: inc 6 times (12 stitches)

Round 3: *sc in the next stitche, inc* (18 stitches)

Rounds 4-5: sc in each of next 18 stitches

Bind off. Work the second eyelid the same way.

BAG

Crochet with yellow color yarn and crochet hook 3 mm

Round 1: 6 sc in a magic circle.

Round 2: inc 6 times (12 stitches)

Round 3: *sc in next st, inc* (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc in each of next 2 sts, inc* (24 stitches)

Rounds 4-10 (working in the back loop): hdc in each of next 24 stitches

Work two rounds in sc´s. Bind off. Weave in all ends.

STRAP

Chain 55 stitches, slip stitch in each of next stitch untill the end of the row. You can make the strap longer or shorter, as desired.

Sew handle to the purse. Weave in all ends. Decorate as desired.

FLOWER

Crochet with white color yarn and crochet hook 2,5 mm

Into a magic ring work: *chain 3 stitches, 2 dc, chain 3 stitches, slip stitch*, repeat from* 4 times.

Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

CROWN

Crochet with yellow color yarn and crochet hook 3 mm

Round 1: chain 18 stitches, joing for crocheting in rounds and work 18 sc.

Rounds 2-7: sc in each of next stitch around. End the last round with a slip stitch.

Round 8: *chain 1, sc in the next stitch, (1 dc, chain 2 and slip stitch) in the next stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch*, reperat from* till the end of the round.

Bind off leaving a long tail for sewing.

ASSEMBLY

Since all the elements of your amigurumi are crocheted, it´s time to sew them together. Use a blunt sweing needle.

Legs are attached to the body now. Position legs and using the yarn left sew them to the body of the frog. Be sure to step back and take a look to make sure they are even.

Eyelids are attached to the eyes now. Thread a needle on one of the yarn tails left from the eyelid and sew them to the eyes. Mark where you want the eyes to be with pins, place them in their right place on the head and sew them with yarn ends left to the head of your frog. Using the yarn left sew them to the head of your amigurumi. Be sure to step back and take a look to make sure they are even. Sew black beads to the eyes.

Using yellow color yarn embroider mouth. Proceed to the smile if desired. You can also add eyelashes. Weave in all ends.

Sew the crown on the head.

You can let your frog princess in a swimsuit or make a swim dress out of it:

Join yarn to the 16 th round of the top.

Working into the front loop: *sc in the next stitch, 5 dc in the next stitch*, repeat from* till the end of the round.

Bind off, hide yarn ends.
