Winter is finally here (at least for us), bringing the anticipation of festive decorations and creative gift ideas that bring the whole family together! Have you ever thought about creating a homemade snowman outfit for a bottle of wine or sparkling wine? It’s not only a unique way to present gifts, but it’s also a lot of fun—guaranteeing beaming smiles!
In this blog post, I will show you step by step how to crochet this cute snowman outfit. And the best part is: you can use it not only for a wine bottle but also to brighten up your children's drinking bottles! This makes drinking during the cold season much more cheerful.
While you crochet the outfit, your kids can enjoy the festive atmosphere and, of course, help decorate the snowman with little accessories. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be creative together and create unforgettable memories. For instance, you can make the snowman’s eyes and buttons with real (colorful) buttons. It would also look lovely if you crochet arms and decorate them with little sticks you’ve collected… there are surely countless other possibilities. Let yourself be inspired by your children. But now, let’s get to the instructions:
What you will need:
- 1 ball of yarn/wool, preferably cotton in white (e.g., Wollidu Kira). Your yarn should be suitable for a 3mm crochet hook.
- Some brown cotton yarn
- A few scraps of fringe yarn (e.g., Wollbiene Fluffy in a matching brown)
- A few scraps in orange (for the nose) and black (for the eyes, buttons, and mouth). Your yarn should be suitable for a 3mm crochet hook.
- 3mm crochet hook
- A small amount of stuffing for the nose
- Scissors, yarn needle
A few tips beforehand:
- Try the bottle cover on the bottle frequently to check if it fits properly.
- I crocheted loosely with the 3mm hook; if you tend to crochet tightly, it’s better to use a 3.5mm hook.
And here's how to do it:
Create a chain of 55 chain stitches, join it into a circle, and crochet one chain stitch and 55 single crochets into it (make sure the chain doesn’t twist). The following rounds will be crocheted in spiral rounds.
Rounds 1-57: single crochets (55)
Change color to brown (cotton)
Rounds 58-60: crochet single crochets only in the back loop.
Round 61: crochet together every 10th and 11th stitch (50 stitches)
Round 62: crochet together every 9th and 10th stitch (45 stitches)
Round 63: crochet together every 8th and 9th stitch (40 stitches)
Round 64: crochet together every 7th and 8th stitch (35 stitches)
Rounds 65-75: crochet 10 rounds of single crochets (35 stitches)
Finally, pull the yarn through and fasten off.
Now we need to create the cozy edge on the lower part of the hat. For this, slip stitches are crocheted through the unworked part of the stitches from the rounds previously crocheted in the back loop. It should look like this:
Nose:
1. Round: Crochet 3 single crochets into a magic ring.
2. Round: Double every single crochet.
3. Round: 6 single crochets.
4. Round: Double every second stitch.
5. Round: 9 single crochets.
6. Round: Double every third stitch.
7. Round: 12 single crochets.
Finally, pull the yarn through and fasten off.
Eyes and Buttons:
The eyes and buttons are crocheted in the same way, with the eyes consisting of one more round. We need two eyes and three buttons.
1. Round: 6 single crochets into a magic ring.
For the buttons, pull the yarn through here and fasten off.
2. Round: Double each stitch.
For the eyes, pull the yarn through here and fasten off
In the end, you can embroider a mouth and give the eyes a sparkle, and everything will be connected with love.
