This basic lightweight sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down without any need for additional finishing. First, the upper back is worked flat. After this, stitches are picked up from cast-on edge and knitted for each shoulder, increasing stitches for the round neck which are then joined for the front. The front and back are joined at the bottom of the armholes to form the body which is worked straight down in the round. Then, back and front are separated again, working the back longer than the front, and ending with a split hem. For the sleeves, pick up stitches from the armholes, and work the sleeves in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up at the neckline to work a ribbed edge.
The silhouette features dropped shoulders, a boxy fit, and long and tight cuffs. The body is designed to be worn cropped, but can be lengthened according to your wishes.

ESTIMATED YARDAGE:
approx.
1,200 (1,300, 1,400, 1,500) (1,700, 1,900, 2,000, 2,200) 2,400 m
1,312 (1,422, 1,531, 1,640) (1,859, 2,078, 2,187, 2,406) 2,625 yards
For size 4 I only needed 440 m (481 yards) and 630 m (689 yards) of the original yarns mentioned above. My test knitters used other yarns, and their usage varied between and within sizes. So, these are just approximations. Total yarn usage will depend on the yarn (fiber content, ply, etc.), your personal gauge, and any modifications you may make.
As an alternative, you can use a bulky weight yarn or a combination of yarns that will give you the right gauge. Please take into account that using other yarns may not create a lightweight garment.
NOTIONS
Use the needle size you need to achieve gauge.
