Doubleface crochet tutorial, Butterflies in rainbow colors

These potholders are very special because of the color gradient, but still very easy to crochet because only two colors are used at a time. The instructions for these potholders include the text "Life is colorful" and several silhouettes of butterflies as positive and negative illustrations.

As a bonus, the motifs are also included as a blank template in black and white, so you can create your own individual color distribution, which is ideal for using up scraps. To calculate how much wool you will need, for the wool used here, each 3 rows is about 5 g.

If you like needlework and also want to try a new technique, this tutorial is for you. The doubleface technique is not difficult to learn, but offers the possibility to create truly individual potholders. Whether for yourself or as a gift is up to you.

The special thing about these potholders is that you can create two completely different sides for one potholder. The technique also makes the potholders nice and thick and therefore insulating excellently. At the same time, you save on sewing the threads - except for the finish - as they are worked directly into the potholder.

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

Knowledge of the doubleface technique is not required. The technique is explained in detail in the instructions. If you are using this technique for the first time, you should first crochet a small test piece according to the instructions in order to grasp the principle. After that, implementation is not difficult anymore.

With this download you will receive a detailed, 24-page PDF file with the description and photos of the technique in German and English (US terminology). The description contains the graphic counting templates and colored number blocks for each row. In addition, instructions of the basic technique of doubleface crochet with enlarged photos and a video tutorial are provided.

Size Information

The finished pot holders have a size of approx. 19 cm x 19 cm.

Materials List

For a pair of potholders you will need a little more than 1 ball of wool (about 55 g) in black and, if the colors are evenly distributed, about 5 g each in 14 matching color scraps (e.g. Schachenmayr Catania or comparable quality) as well as a crochet hook that fits the thickness of the wool.
