“I suppose I ought to eat or drink something or other; but the great question is ‘What?’” said Alice. The white rabbit had the Painting the White Roses Red Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern up his sleeve, "Drink hot tea" he said and the Hatter thought this was an amazing idea.
In the story of Alice in Wonderland, the wrong rose bushes have been planted, and they are covered in white roses. But the Queen likes red roses, so the cards are fixing the problem by painting the white roses red.
The main part of the cosy is knitted in a leaf like textured pattern to create the base of the rose bush. The roses are knitted and sewn on afterwards. Not all of the roses have been painted, so there are a few white roses as well as red ones. You can see that one of the red roses is dripping red paint.
At the base of the rose bush is a paint pot and paint brush that have hurriedly been hidden. Maybe one of the cards will be returning to continue painting in a while, if he's not had his head chopped off.
Such a lovely cosy that reminds you of that wonderful story by Lewis Carroll of a little girl who enjoyed curious things.
