I am preparing for Christmas early! Meet Mrs. Claus, the wife of Santa Claus.
It’s a storage box. The dress has a zipper at the bottom, it’s hollow inside, you may use it to hide sweets and Christmas presents. Zipper is optional, should you wish not to make a storage box you may choose to stuff it with hollow fibre.
Sculpting is minimal, you would only need to sculpt the face and the tutorial describes it in detail. However, this is optional and you may choose not to perform any sculpting at all.
Reading glasses are made of a piece of wire, the process is demonstrated in this tutorial.

Techniques:
Magic Ring; crochet on chains; increase/decrease of stitches; crochet in continuous rounds, working with fluffy yarn, fasten off.
My Mrs. Claus is 18 cm tall.
The size of your Mrs. Claus will depend on the yarn you use. The thicker the yarn the bigger the toy you will get.
You can choose the yarn at your discretion, of similar color, composition and thickness. Acrylic, cotton will do.
The yarn consumption below is based on the thickness of the yarn and crochet hook size used by myself.
In order to make my Mrs. Claus, I used hook No. 1.25 and yarn of approximately the same thickness:
For a dress – Acrylic yarn (red) 450m/100g (approx. 25-30g)
For the head – Acrylic yarn (nude) 438m/100g (approx. 20g)
For hair – Acrylic yarn (grey) 438m/100g (approx. 10-15g)
For apron and frills – Cotton yarn (white) 425m/100g (approx. 10g)
For a dress – yarn of red or green colour
For the head – nude colour yarn
For hair – yarn of grey or white colour
For apron and frills – yarn of white colour, to make frills you may use thin lace (approx. 75cm provided you use same thickness yarn as mine)
A crochet hook, I used 1,25mm crochet hook
For embroidery: a few threads of pink and brown
2 beads for eyes or ready - made eyes, I used 8 mm half - beads
Close-end red colour zipper, I used 30cm long zipper. In order to measure a required length for your zipper make a sample consisting of 114 chains.
White and red colour sewing cotton threads
A sewing needle, a long needle for sculpting
Strong thread for sculpting (for example tooth floss)
Hollow fiber toy/cushion filling
Dressmaking pins
Dry soft pastels or any other suitable means for tinting (pink)
For reading glasses – a piece of rigid wire diam. 1 mm long approx. 20 cm or ready-made miniature glasses
