These mittens are worked in the Norwegian Selbu tradition, and the motif is inspired by old Selbu motifs. They were traditionally worked in black and white, but some times the black or white was replaced by red.
This design has lined cuff, thumb gusset and the decreases are made in the sides so that they meet in a point at the top.
Pattern in English and Norwegian.
You will need to know basic increase and decrease stitches. The mittens are worked in the round with two colours from chart. All techniques, including how to work the thumb, are explained, many with pictures. The cuff is worked in stockinette, with an eyelet round for the picot edge, and then folded and knitted (or sewn) together before knitting the hand.
The pattern contains a section called Tips & Explanations with useful information and tips for how to achieve the best result.
Finished measurements:
I have used Finull by Rauma Garn, approx. 45 grams of main colour and 30 grams of contrast colour. (This is a 2 ply wool Garn with 175 metres per 50 grams).
In addition you'll need needles (dpns) size 3.0 mm, a piece of scrap yarn or stitch holder for thumb stitches, and darning needle.
