Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Free Crochet patter for an Owl baby Blanket'

Size:

Approx. 75 x 70 cm
If a yarn with the same gauge is used

Material:
Chunky / Bulky Yarn approx. 400 gr
100 gr. = 136 meters
(if you use a different weighted yarn you might need more or less of the yarn)
Crochet hook 5.5 mm

Gauge:
10 x 10 cm: 14 Dc x 8 Rows

The Pattern is written in US terms:
St:                    Stitch
Ch:                   Chain
Slst:                  Slipstitch
Sc:                    Single crochet
Hdc:                  half double crochet
Dc:                    double crochet
Ch sp:               chain space

I tried to write the pattern as beginner friendly as possible, if you have any questions or issues during knitting, I’m more than happy to help. Eiter via a comment here or via a private message.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Info for when worked with the Row by Row explanation:
The Chain stitch counts as a first stitch unless its stated differently.
For each Dc from the previous round we’ll work either 1 Dc or 1 Ch, and always 2 Dc in the chain spaces.
whenever the pattern calls for 2 Ch, we jump over 2 stitches and work the next Dc in the following stitch (this is not explained in each row so remember that 2 ch are always followed by jump over 2 stitches)

The Blanket is worked in the Filet Crochet technique where we have Blocks and Spaces. The Blocks always contain of 4 Dc and the Spaces always contain of 1 Dc, 2 Ch (jump over 2 stitches), 1 Dc.
With this the first and last Dc of a Space or block is always the first and last from the previous Space or Block
This Info is not as important when you work with the Row by row explanation as its written what to work but might help a bit with understanding the technique.
If there are more than one space following each other I usually write in the pattern how many spaces, there are for this part to make it a bit easier.

The Row always begins with 3 Ch and a minimum of 3 Dc in the following 3 stitches and ends with a minimum of 3 Dc in the last 3 Stitches and the very last Dc in the third Ch from the previous row. (you can see it on the photos with the green needle)

If you work it via the Graph:

You’ll find the graph after the Row explanation.
The Blanet has 30 Blocks and 42 rows.

This pattern is worked in Filet crochet which contains Blocks and Spaces, each Block has 4 DC, each space has 1 Dc, 2 ch and jumps over 2nd, 1 Dc.
The first or last Dc of a Block or a space is also counted as the first or last Dc of the next Block or Space. Which means if there are 2 or more blocks after each other the last DC from the Block before counts as the first DC of the new one, with that 2 blocks have 7 Dc’s, 3 Blocks have 10 Dc’s, 4 Blocks have 13 Dc`s and so on. I added a graph to show it better, but you can always contact me with any questions.

The Row always begins with 3 Ch (which is counted as the first stitch) and a minimum of 3 Dc in the following 3 stitches and ends with a minimum of 3 Dc in the last 3 Stitches and the very last Dc in the third Ch from the previous row. (you can see it on the photos with the green needle)

If this pattern is worked with the row by row explanation is always written what has to be worked.

Start with the Graph:
Loosely cast on 94 stitches and work the first Dc in the 4. Stitch from the hook (a row has always 91 stitches either Dc or Ch stitches)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Owl Baby Blanket
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cast on 94 not too tight
(remember the 3 ch at the beginning or a row is counted as the first stitch, after 2 ch we jump over 2 stitches and the very last Dc is always worked on top of the 3rd ch from the previous round)

1. Row:            work the first Dc in the 4th stitch from the hook and work 90 Dc in each following stitch (91 St)
2. Row:            3 Ch, 15 Dc, 2 Ch, 73 Dc (91 St)

don’t cut off the thread just yet

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Border:

1. Round
1. Side (top): Ch 3 (does not count as a stitch) turn the work and work another 2 Dc in the same stitch and 1 Dc in each following of the next 89 stitches, the last stitch of this row is worked again in the top of the 3rd chain from the previous row, work 2 Dc and 2 ch in the stitch (93 Dc’s)
2. Side (the left side down, it is worked in the sides of the previous rows) work 4 Dc in the first side of a row, and 2 Dc in each following side until the last row is reached, work again 4 Dc in the last side of the row and 2 Ch. (88 Dc‘s)
3. Side (the bottom part) work again 2 Dc in the first stitch and 1 Dc in each one of the following 89 stitches, in the last stitch of this row again 2 Dc and 2 ch in the top of the ch of the previous row. (93 Dc’s)
4. Side (the right side up, is worked again in the sides of the previous rows) work again 4 Dc in the first side of the row, and 2 Dc in each one of the following sides until the last one is reached. Work again 4 Dc and 2 Ch in the very last side of the row and close this round with a slst in the top of the very first stitch of this round. (88 Dc’s)

2. Round
Ch 3 (does not count as a stitch) work 1 Dc in each stitch from the previous round and work 1 Dc, 2 Ch and 1 Dc in each corner. At the very end close to a round with another slst in the first stitch.

3. Round (if wished)
This last round is worked with the Crab stitch. The Crab stitch is worked with single crochet stitches but instead going from right to left ist worked from left to right (backwards)
The Round starts with ch1, work the first single crochet but instead of inserting the hook to the next stitch on the left you insert it into the next stitch on your right, yarn over and pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through both loops.
work like this around the whole blanket and work 2 Crab stitches in each corner.

Cut off the thread and sew the Ends 😊
