A crocheted Octopus Slouchy hat pattern in a child's size with unlimited avenues of color expression. Inspired by Natalie Allen-TheTwistedHatter. I've changed, modified, added to & incorporated my original ideas to make a children's option by reducing the size of the hat and arms, changing the stitch pattern of the sack, creating actual cup-like suckers, adding a more defined/detailed outlining of the arms/brim & vibrant jewel-tone eyes. The Slouchy part of the hat (sack/mantle) is light-weight and can be filled with a couple wadded up plastic grocery bags, stuffing/wadding or your own hair/dreads.
Terminology: U.S. terms
Hooks: U.S. sizes
Measurement: Imperial measurement
I consider this pattern an intermediate skill level, but totally doable for an enthusiatic beginner. Pattern is very detailed with many pictures and tons of notes with little tips, tricks & helpful hints to guide you through the process. Pattern also includes a very thorough Glossary, Definitions & Key to Abbreviations section that lists and defines all the stitches used throughout.
Size: Child size 18½“- 21” depending on your tension
Hooks: K/6.50mm, I/5.50mm, H/5.00mm, G/4.00mm/4.25mm, 00 steel/E/3.50mm, 0 steel/D/3.25mm
Yarn: approx. 20 oz of #4 medium/worsted/aran weight yarn (divvied up between the 5 main components of hat...sack, head cap, arms, borders/brow fringe & suckers)
Embroidery thread: approx. 8 pks of varying colors + 1 black & 1 white
Stuffing: for eyeballs
Yarn needle
Scissors
Care- Acrylic yarn
Machine wash low/no heat on delicate with gentle detergent if any...(I recommend adding 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar instead of commercial fabric softener)
Lay flat, pinned on head form with arms fixed in desired curls or machine dry No heat with dryer balls.
By all means, sell the finished product if you desire, but please do not re-sell or publish my pattern as your own.
If you post some pics online to show your lovely work, I would appreciate a tag, link or information on where to find the pattern in the description. It would really help me out.
