Majestically the large castle ruins are overlooking Loch Ness. For me always a magical place I visited around 5 times over the last years. My first time was ages ago when there was no big visitor center such as now and less tourists disturbing the peace and quiet. Over the time the popularity of Urquhart Castle has grown bigger and bigger and yet it is still a special place for me. It was the perfect spot for my photos reflecting the combination of two passions – knitting and Scotland. And why naming it “Smooth as a Single Malt”? Scotland and Whiskey just belong together.
My Shawl is a combination in between cable and aran on both sides and scale quilting stitches in the middle which are giving the impression that embossed strands have been woven diagonally through the finished knitting.
The pattern is for intermediate knitters due to cable, aran and the scale quilting stitches. None of these techniques are difficult, but some are a bit fiddly and any counting errors will show up, so it is not mindless knitting! But you will manage it even if you are not that skilled. And you can always ask me for advice.
The following basics would be of an advantage

• My Smooth as a Single Malt is knitted with 4 skeins Dye for Yarn DK/Silk/Merion superwash colour “Too hard butter cookie” 50% Silk, 50% Merino
• Easy to use alternative yarns for this pattern. Just adjust the needle size or size of the scarf.
